Microphones:

*The 2 "Umbrella" Categories
1.Condenser Mics
2.Dynamic Mics
These are the mikes that are used mostly in the studios.(95%) Use rate. These can be further classified into 8 different key ways.

1. Frequency Response: This type of mike work better in high frequency instruments like acoustic guitar, cymbals, piano etc. where as dynamic mics work better on low mid frequency instruments such as drums and electric guitar cabs. Just for better understanding, more complex they are, much better to learn.

2. Diaphragm size and weight.
They work well with high frequencies because they are smaller lighter diaphragm to capture sound.
Note: high frequencies contain less energy compared to  low frequencies, as a result they don't have as much power to move mass plus they are far less responsive.

3. Internal Circuitry
The positive side of heavier diaphragm is that the larger mass produces voltages by movement just to cancel the necessity of extra power source. for this reason they are know to be passive.
As opposed to Dynamic mics, Condenser mics are active and needs phantom power to boost voltages that are weak. There for condenser mic allows to record higher gain and softness of sound.

4. Diaphragm Durability
The lighter diaphragms can result to be more fragile. They also may get damaged with sound pressure levels. (SPL)

Therefore, The stronger diaphragms of dynamics results better with drums and other type of louder instruments. Likewise,

5. General Durability.
Dynamic mics are strongly structured resulting a long term usage. When accidentally dropped, it stays pretty well and unmentionable.

6. Resistance to Moisture:
Environmental challenges are often hard to deal with. Specially for the equipment and its safety, its is crucial for one to be aware of what kind of mic they prefer. Dynamic mics are   works well under humidity but may results problem under extreme Humidity.

7. Gain before Feedback: you can  receive higher gain before occurrence of feed back.

8. Price Tag
price range-
$400-$500(dynamic mics)
Condenser mics- $5-10 grand each.

The sub-categories of mics

Types:

Building up a story idea
Coming up with ideas is hard.
restriction, method. > help us to come up with creative ideas,
twist and distinct properties.

These provided images are the rough sketch of my 2d character, mostly shows the front, back, and third quarter position. I have tried to keep it simple with fewer details and no clothing or additional props. I am doing this because of my limited knowledge. But later on, after gaining skills I can always add stuff back.
Story Concept 1

For this particular character, the role of a drunk man would be preferable. his appearance resembles more like a drunk personality. therefore I will b relating alcoholic barrel and a flask to support the story concept.

First off all I will simply start a shot with Character leaving the house, can be seen him in front of his jeep and then looking towards the jeep and driving it towards his adventurous journey which is all about liquor hunting,

Then, if I can animate him drinking whiskey on the way to ride while driving followed by an ultimate car accident. As I am very new to 3D modeling and no knowledge about Maya. I will have to face challenges and refer to lots of tutorials. With primarily focusing on character modeling  I will be getting with seniors brothers, tutor, and colleagues.

Week 3 One on one

For my project this year I will be doing a matte painting and later incorporate them as a moving camera scene.

This is the general example of a matte painting that I found on YouTube, In this video, the artist creates this entire artform from google search images and combining it digitally using various Photoshop tools.

Software to be looked and learn

Autodesk Maya: since we are learning Maya this year, I have always wanted to include 3d objects in compositing as I am a huge fan of Visual effects and compositing. Learning this technique would definitely help in my career.

Adobe Photoshop:
It is an essential software to carryout matte painting. It is widely used and known around the world.

Supporting software:
World machine: This is the software that I should be learning in the future as it is extremely useful when creating an environment.

Quick Sample of my PowerPoint presentation.

Tutors opinion:
Stick with two slides and your speech should be of 1000 words. and later have to write 2000 word dissertation. You might write your speech and practice at home, this will help me not to end in the middle of the speech.

What is Auteur?
  • Auteur Theory

It is the theory of film making where director is considered a s the main creative force in a motion picture. It started in France in during the late 1940's so then it was later dubbed by Andrew Sarris; an American movie critic.

The role of the Auteur?
This theory insists that the movie is the reflection of the director's artistic vision. therefore the  filmmaker holds a recolonization and a full authority to manipulate the subjective idea or concept of the overall scene. The help to centralize idea while most of them has a strong visual style that audience can recognize the film just seeing a few frame. Film makers like, Spielberg, Fischer, Nolan, Burton Scorsese are an example of Auteur.

Draw your own list of other potential auteurs?

List Some of their signature traits to back up your claims.

Genre
There are many types of genre and mixed genre.
western, specific, drama, specific action, thriller, style can be aesthetic/ how it can be marketed, mystery thriller,

the benefits of having mix genre is that it is marketable.
horror films/ how

certain convection are honored

Auteur

Alfred Hitchcock:
unusual camera angle,

Martin Scorsese
rough cutting/ male cantered

Are you an Auteurs?
As being an Auteurs, it helps to put your idea in front. So it gives you an advantage to work according to my needs which can be good in some aspect, making it a solid decision that requires no need of compromising and spend maximum time. With regards to the topic, I would not prefer being an Auteurs because I would like to hear from different individuals, their experience and knowledge, from which we can have a broad spectrum of ideas that would make overall scene, brilliant.
Elaborate you opinion in 100 words.

Do you believe in one single idea/ a person to make a whole change for the movie?
A single man's opinion can lack some potential concept or ideas, which may not be suitable for whole film but there should be someone to lead the main idea, other wise it will be hard to compromise among film creaters. Hence I would say that a person if has a strong knowledge, vitality and has a broad spectrum of thinking capabilities will not harm a whole movie change.

Hollywood studio of Abel Image research where the computers are used to design a character that has a lifelike characteristic, and moves like waves. I find this very fascinated as the robot appears to be extraordinary and has a contrast to it. It is cleary in focus.  This was a breakthrough in 1984 among filmmakers. these were never done before using computers, every single detail of body parts 18 pieces in total which never existed outside the computer. later 3d model are made with necessary dimension, also can be manipulated, bringing it to life. Director Andy Robert Brut force animation which made motion tracking/ vector graphic/ raster graphic to be applicable for film/ commercial.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Biographical war film made by Mel Gibson.
Hacksaw Ridge scene where Sergent asks hilarious questions to soldiers and get the responses. I find it quite funny, Some random questions are, "How long have you been dead son?", " I have seen stocks of corn with better physiques.. can you carry your weight?" Here expressions of Sergent is very serious, well carried out.

Suddenly It's Spring. (1947)
Directed by Mitchel Leisen. The story was created when the end of World War II. The story was set in 1945. The 87 minutes long film starred Paulette Goddard and Fred MacMurray. who play as a military, Movie has a funny conversation between two, plans for divorce but could make it through. But later gets united. while another woman thinks that she had betrothed her husband and a friend of the husband gathers romantic designs on the wife.

The contrast between these movies is quite different while old movies have fluent speaking speeches/ dialogues but the modern one has slow with a pause and should be intended for modern global cinema.

The one I recently watched was David lynches Dune(1984) American epic science fiction film also has lots of comedic effect scene from Kyle Maclachlan as Paul Atereides, talking to him self especially, saying where are my feelings when his momes stars crying hearing husband's murder. also, there are much funny acts done by Vladimir Harkonnen, a role played by Stellan Skarsgard.

Motion Capture can be defined as the procedure of tracking intricacies of live moving surfaces by a digital camera and later processing this information with the use of computer software. In modern days they are widely used in movies, video games, apps, and many more, as a whole they have a place in military services medical applications, entertainment, etc.

Uncanny Valley:
As Masahiro Mori, a professor at the Tokyo Institute came up with this title that it resembles the observation that robots appear more like humans alike. With these people feel strangeness, uneasy so they develop a negative reaction to certain lifelike robots.

In terms of movies, most of the modern movies have crossed beyond the uncanny valley. highly successful movies like lord of the rings, avatar, avenger, Mr. robot, etc have gained massive popularity. The scene when Gollum played a fictional character is so photo-realistic and perfectly blends with the environment. This seems to be a great achievement by humans towards film technology.

another great movie 'Avatar' made by James Cameroon has shocked the world with a completely new concept along with characters and an environment that satisfies audiences.
Avatar uses 3D technologies to track data from the character's body movement. To film the true to life arrangements of Avatar, he utilized an adjusted adaptation of the Fusion camera. The new 3D camera makes an increased reality see for Cameron as he shoots, detecting its situation on a movement catch stage, at that point incorporating the live entertainers into CG conditions on the viewfinder.

His virtual camera permitted Cameron to shoot a scene essentially by traveling through the volume. Cameron could get the camera and shoot his entertainers photographically, as the exhibition happened, or he could reshoot any scene by strolling through the void sound stage with the gadget after the entertainers were gone, catching distinctive camera points as the scene replayed.

proposal one

*Ideas
My concept for this project is all about matte painting. From the previous studies, I had a general idea about film, animation and how they are brought in life. I am very much fascinated by early filmmakers like George Melies, Norman Dawn, Oscar Gustave Rejlander.

With the advancement of film technology, matte painting has been performed in various ways over time, It can be categorized into two aspects namely,  traditional form and current digital form.
This technique covers art and live-action to create an illusion and appear an image to be moving. In the film industry, this technique can be very cost-saving, efficient and convenient.
some of the all-time successful movies that performed a tremendous amount of matte paintings are Mary Poppins, the Planet of the Apes, Dracula, King Kong, North by the Northwest, The Birds etc. These movies have highly drawn my attention and gave me the idea that visual effects can be possible without the use of modern software.

*Concept
Under matte painting, there are several principles which include green screening or chroma keying, digital painting, color grading, lighting etcetera. which I will be researching and learning through the internet. This task will cover digital paintings of sceneries and buildings and later composited together with moving cameras. I am going to film this project during day time with clear weather.

*Plans
-Analyzing location and getting permission from the respected department to shoot video in
private and public property around Invercargill city. In addition, the good weather conditions of the city will ease my effort.
Arranging a camera and equipment.
Finally, Filming quality shots of a background environment.

*Wishful thinking
As a creative student, my future goal is to include moving 3d objects into a scene and make it appear as a part of the scene. I am very aware of the complexity and adequate knowledge it requires. But First, I have to learn how to perform 3D animation which I hope to gain  On the successful completion of this study.

*Software Use.
My final output will be fully composited under the mentioned software that is Nuke.
This project allows me to explore the concept of matte painting and how it has evolved over time
Moreover, I will be able to learn about various software.

*Influence artist:
George Melies: From the mid to 19th century, photographers were continuously experimenting with double exposure to produce a full composite image. Melies basically painted the glass in black color as the main background. this trick lets black matte to keep light from reaching the main camera.
As a result, the portion which is not exposed to light will appear empty. George Melies, Oscar Gustave Rejlander (In 1857, they performed the world first special effects images which were the combination of 32 negatives into a single image known as montage combination print. he also published the first motion picture comprise of special effects. some of his famous movies are A trip to the moon, The house of the Devil, Rescue on the river, Cinderella, Conjuring, etc.

Norman Dawn:
Dawn's to begin with film Missions of California made broad utilization of the glass shot, in which certain things are painted on a bit of glass and set in between the camera and the live activity.
Numerous of the buildings which First light was shooting were at slightest mostly annihilated; by portray segments of roof or dividers, the impression was made that the buildings were in truth, entire. The most contrast between the glass shot and the matte shot is that with a glass shot, all shooting is done with a single introduction of the film.
This led his work to appear low cost and high quality, moreover, his shot created the mainstay in special effects cinema throughout the century.

Andrew Kramer: I consider him as the After Effects Guru because of his ability to express the working methodologies on a respective software.  As the host over 160 instructional videos and maker of title groupings for TV's Periphery and the film Star Journey, Andrew has taken an interest in numerous shapes of generation from visual impacts artist, to coordinating commercials and promos. His site Video Copilot has been a dynamic constraint within the visual impacts industry with his energetic preparing fashion and inventive plug-ins.

How Digital Matte the painting would make my overall composited scene look seamless reflecting realism to the set?

In the current meta, Digital Matte paintings is considered as an emerging artform that has got wide popularity among Film and TV industries. It is continuously growing every year and has a significant impact on the overall looks of the output scene.

My concept for this project is all about digital matte painting where I will be using various software with their availability on the campus. From my previous academic journey, I had a general idea about the makings of film and animated videos in order to show how they are brought in life. Consequently, I became very much fascinated by early filmmakers like George Melies, Norman Dawn, Oscar Gustave Rejlander.

With the advancement of film technology, Matte painting has been performed in various ways over time, it can be categorized into two aspects namely, traditional form and current digital a form where I will be emphasizing digital aspects of it.
Practically, this technique covers art and live-action to create an illusion where the image appears to be moving. The main benefit of matte painting is that this technique can be Time & cost-saving with efficient and convenient outcomes.
Watching movie is fun and enjoyable but do we ever wonder how every the scene that we see are brought to be realistic and practical at the same time. To name some of the all-time successful movies that are performed with a tremendous amount of matte paintings are Mary Poppins, the Planet of the Apes, Dracula, King Kong, North by the Northwest, The Birds etc. So, these movies have highly drawn my attention, giving me enthusiasm and courage to explore and test more on subjects.  I realized that the visual effects are also possible without the use of complex and modern software.

This project is intended to provide adequate experience to build fundamental skillsets when it comes to digital compositing and matte painting. I take it as a foundation to a future career as an animator and visual effects artist.

For this the project, I will be capturing random shots of Invercargill City using wide-angle camera lenses. As the majority of building in this city are small and boring in some ways. Thus, I will be giving my best to make it look elegant and interesting. The footage that I will be working on will be shot in the daylight.

I am finding Maya a bit challenging as I have used it for the first time. I definitely have to spend some extra time learing it. In addition I find hard to catch up with my Tutor instruction.

With the back ground environment the image should be looking somewhat like this.

Provide your own analysis of the aspects of form in the opening sequence of Back to the Future and address the following.

What does the scene tell us about the narrative?

What does mise-en-scene inform about the characters?

How does the camera work editing and sound support the story?

1. What does the scene tell us about the narrative?

The story some how starts with suspicious story and close up shots.

But some how  elements like clock, robot/machine in the shot provides some unusual/ weird acts. It seems like the inventor is very creative and intelligent, every tricks have been carried well but the owner and a dog is not there.

2.What does mise-en-scene inform about the characters?

The visual representation of character resembles more like a teenage boy with a cool outfits with confident voice. The sound amplify can produce a very loud sound, Instruments shown in the video are well equipped. The room is pretty small and utilized properly.

3. How does the camera work editing and sound support the story?

Camera shots are continuous moving and are made still and zoomed in at some part, just to give an idea of what is going on with the thing.

It is very fascination to see how the individual sounds  coherently matches with visual element. Sounds like clock ticking, radio playing, robot alike hand moving, skateboard rolling.
